Managing Directors
H. J. (Hal) Miller - With experience spanning a broad spectrum of technical, strategic planning, and financial areas within the energy industry, Hal is widely recognized for innovative problem solving. Prior to founding Galway Group (2003) and Galway Capital's (2002) predecessor company, Cornerstone Ventures, Hal held a variety of engineering and operating positions with Phillips Petroleum and Colorado Interstate Gas. He also held senior marketing, planning, and business development positions with Transco Energy and The Williams Companies. Following these ventures, Hal was responsible for the start-up and development of Transfuel Resources, an indirect subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation. Through Galway Capital, Mr. Miller is registered as a General Securities Representative (Series 7) and General Securities Principal (Series 24) with the FINRA (www.finra.org). Hal holds an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and an MBA from the University of Colorado. William A. (Bill) Smith - With extensive experience in senior management, Bill offers considerable expertise in identifying, developing, and implementing strategic initiatives in energy resources, transactions, and infrastructure development. Bill has served as General Counsel of Sonat, President of Sonat's Southern Natural Gas Company, and Vice Chairman of Sonat Exploration Company. Preceding the merger of Sonat with El Paso Corporation in 1999, he was Executive Vice President of Sonat, with responsibility for Sonat's corporate business development efforts as well as legal and governmental affairs. After the merger, he served as El Paso's Executive Vice President of Corporate Development, President of its Global LNG Subsidiary, and Chairman of El Paso Merchant Energy's Global Gas Group, with primary responsibility for the company's expanding LNG business. Bill joined Galway Capital as Managing Director in 2002, and became one of the original Galway Group partners in 2003. Bill is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Alabama's School of Law. A. Wayne Perry - One of the LNG industry's most experienced people, Wayne has been involved in the design, construction, operation, and management of LNG facilities, as well as being responsible for LNG shipping and supply contracts for a variety of key industry participants, beginning with the Lake Charles LNG Terminal. Wayne served as President and CEO of Duke Energy's LNG activities, including Trunkline LNG, with complete responsibility for related gas purchase contracts and ship management activities. Following this assignment, Wayne was Senior Vice President for Enron Global LNG, with responsibility for ship acquisition and operational management, as well as spot cargo acquisition and origination. After leaving Enron, Wayne joined to El Paso, where he was appointed Senior Vice President for its global LNG business, with key responsibilities in ship acquisition and LNG supply origination, as well as receiving facility development. Wayne's career also includes extensive pipeline experience, having served as Vice President, Transmission for Trunkline Gas Company, with operations responsibility for nearly 5,000 miles of gas pipelines and related compressor stations, directing an operations and maintenance staff of more than 400 people. Other assignments included design, construction, and project management responsibilities of numerous onshore and offshore pipeline and compressor facilities in the U.S. and the Middle East. Wayne holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University and an M.B.A. from McNeese State University. Richard P. (Rick) Bergsieker - With more than 35 years of experience focused on LNG commercial project development across the globe, Rick has an extensive record of accomplishments in LNG marketing, upstream oil and gas production, petroleum and LNG shipping/logistics, joint venture structuring operation, project financing, and governmental relations. Prior to joining Galway, Rick held senior executive positions at Enron, including Enron Global LNG and President of Enron Middle East. In these positions, Rick defined and implemented Enron LNG's business strategies and developed new relationships in the Middle East and Far East, including operational support for LNG terminal/power plant projects, LNG ship acquisition, and assisting the UAE government in the development of Project Dolphin. Earlier in his career, Rick was employed by Roy M. Huffington, Inc. and its successor, Virginia Indonesia Co., where he directed LNG marketing and development activities in Indonesia and Japan, including supply agreements, merchant LNG arrangements, and acquisition of LNG shipping capacity. In addition, Rick served as Manager of LNG Development, with responsibility for structuring and commercial development of potential LNG projects for El Paso in Eastern Siberia, Japan, and the U.S. West Coast. Rick has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla and an M.B.A. from the University of Missouri at Columbia. Robert G. (Bob) Hardy - With experience focusing on the legal and regulatory aspects of energy project development, Bob has served as a partner in Andrews & Kurth's Washington DC office, primarily representing Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corporation before Federal agencies and courts. He has specialized in energy regulation, practicing before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Congressional subcommittees, and the National Energy Board of Canada. Prior to joining Andrews & Kurth, Bob served as regulatory counsel for Gas del Estado, the Argentine national gas company, in connection with the successful privatization of Argentina's natural gas industry. Bob participated in the formation of Cornerstone Ventures, L.P. (now Galway Capital and the Galway Group. Through Galway Capital, Bob is registered as a General Securities Representative (Series 7) and General Securities Principal (Series 24) with the FINRA. He holds a B.A. from Duke University and a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Messrs. Miller, Smith, Perry, Bergsieker, and Hardy of Galway Group are partners in and sole owners of the firm. Messrs. Miller and Hardy are also Managing Directors of Galway Capital and its sole owners.
Directors
Gauthier Van Marcke - Gauthier joined Galway in 2007, and brings to the firm 15 years of technical, commercial development, and corporate strategy and development experience in the natural gas and financial services sectors. Prior to joining Galway, Gauthier held several commercial development positions at Enron where he focused on gas pipeline supply origination and, at Enron Global LNG, supported SPA negotiations and the development of shipping optimization transactions. Following Enron, he joined Capital One Financial Corporation where he held several commercial development and corporate strategy roles. After Capital One, Gauthier joined ION Geophysical to assist in the development and rollout of the commercial strategy for a new seismic technology targeted at unconventional gas reserves. Earlier in his career, Gauthier was a production engineer with Exxon focused on production and development of both onshore and offshore natural gas assets. Gauthier holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and an M.B.A from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University with concentrations in Finance and Entrepreneurship Management
Shannon W. McAdams, CFA - Shannon joined Galway Group in 2007 to focus on transaction advisory and capital raising activities. His responsibilities include deal screening, transaction structuring, transaction negotiation, due diligence, and strategic & commercial advice. Prior to joining Galway, Shannon was the Director of Origination for Technology Tree Group, an early stage Venture Investment Company. Earlier he was a principal with Mercury Venture Partners in Houston where he held both operational and investment roles in a variety of industries and situations. From 1998 to 2000 he was an Associate in Chase Manhattan’s Global Investment Bank and later an Equity Analyst for Chase Asset Management’s Small Cap Mutual Fund where he focused on the consumer sector. Shannon holds an M.B.A. (with honors) from the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University (Aldrich Fellow), with concentrations in Finance and Entrepreneurship, and a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Finance from The New College at the University of Alabama. He is a member of the Houston Angel Network and a Committeeman for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Shannon is a former U.S. Army Officer and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Alan Carter - With 25 years experience in the energy industry, most of Alan's career has been in the U.S. mid-stream gas industry, with extensive experience in planning facilities installations, conducting feasibility studies, and in evaluating operational commercial issues regarding energy projects. Alan began his career as a facilities planning engineer for Southern Natural Gas Company, where he analyzed facilities requirements for gas pipelines, compressor stations and gas processing plants. He then worked with Sonat Marketing Company, the gas marketing affiliate of Southern Natural Gas Company, where he led a commercial team that handled daily transportation and sales matters on behalf of Sonat Marketing. When Southern Natural was acquired by El Paso Corporation, Alan began to work for El Paso Merchant Energy Company where he was responsible for commercial strategy evaluation, including assisting with the re-opening of El Paso's Elba Island LNG terminal. After Elba Island, Alan worked for El Paso Global LNG Company as Managing Director of LNG, with responsibility for the development of an overall LNG business strategy, including the development of the Energy Bridge concept, which is the basis for Excelerate Energy's current business strategy. Alan has a Civil Engineering degree from Auburn University.
Robert N. (Bob) Davis - Involved in the engineering, construction and commercialization aspects of cryogenic gases for over thirty-five years, Bob enjoyed a long career at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., where he has led marketing efforts for a range of projects, including large base load LNG plants to state and multinational oil and gas companies throughout the world. Bob has extensive knowledge of and background in most of the world's major liquefaction projects, serving most recently as Air Products' Director of Energy and Process Industries Division, the global leader for technology commercialization and alliances associated with its strategic hydrogen business. Following his retirement in 2007, Bob serves as Assistant Head of Engineering Education at Purdue University. He is the co-holder of several U.S. patents for cryogenic insulation and gas processing and is the author of a number of papers in the field. Bob holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with Highest Distinction from Purdue and an M.B.A. with Honors from the University of Chicago.
Peggy L. Determeyer - With more than 30 years of experience in technical and commercial analysis and project management, Peggy is a financial and strategic planning professional in the area of energy industry infrastructure development, utility economics, gas storage economics and marketing. Peggy is noted for her work in developing computer-based models used to forecast business and financial conditions for the development of both strategic plans and specific infrastructure projects. While with Enron Corporation, she developed financial models that depicted all aspects of proposed power plants, LNG regasification terminals, LNG tankers, natural gas pipelines, and water infrastructure projects. Prior to and following her tenure with Enron, Peggy served as a Senior Gas Industry Consultant for International Gas Consulting, Inc., where she assisted clients with developing commercial strategies for natural gas industry infrastructure facilities, including LNG liquefaction facilities and regasification terminals, underground storage, and pipelines. Peggy served as co-author for two White Papers published by Gas Research Institute
entitled Natural Gas Storage: Historical Development and Expected Evolution and Current Market Drivers and Probable Trends in the Utilization of Natural Gas Storage, as well as several other industry articles. Peggy also serves on the business faculty of the University of Phoenix, where she is the recipient of the 2007 Faculty Leadership Award for the Graduate Business Program/Houston Campus. She holds an A.B. from Randolph-Macon Woman's College and an M.B.A. in Finance from the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania). |
